Every fan of the superhero genre is desperately waiting for Deadpool 2. However, it seems that it would take a bit longer than expected since the production was halted after the death of stunt driver Joi “SJ” Harris on the movie sets.
According to reports, Harris (who was the stunt double for Zazie Beetz) was performing a motorcycle stunt, when she crashed through the glass of the studio in Vancouver. Since the accident happened in Canada, many Canadian law enforcement agencies are investigating the accident.
After the unfortunate accident, many members of the cast and crew of Deadpool released statements regarding the incident. Ryan Reynolds, who is the main character of the movie, was sensitive to the whole matter, extending his heartfelt condolences to those who knew Harris.
The director of the film, David Leitch, also issued a statement:
“I’m deeply saddened by the loss of one of our stunt performers today. No words can express how I and the rest of the Deadpool 2 crew feel about this tragedy. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones in this difficult time.”
Apart from this, an official statement was also made by 20th Century Fox, the production company behind the movie:
“We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends, and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Vancouver Police (who are investigating the accident) issued a formal statement:
“Vancouver Police can confirm that a female stunt driver has died on the set of Deadpool during a stunt on a motorcycle. VPD officers are at the scene, along with officers from WorkSafeBC. More information will be released when it is available.”
