Time is approaching for us to bid farewell to Wolverine Hugh Jackman with the arrival of Logan. It has been such a painful exit and has unleashed a barrage of queries being faced by the actor about the possibilities of his comeback to the franchise.
He has consistently been clarifying that he feels that the time is perfect for him to move out after having spent nearly two decades as Wolverine:
“It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. … I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.”
We wonder if anything can compel him to stay on as our favorite Wolverine? For most of the time, we couldn’t think of anything. However, now we believe that there is indeed something that could have halted his exit: the MCU.
During a recent interview, he was asked whether he would have stayed on if there was an Avengers crossover in the works. You would be extremely frustrated to know because Jackman responded in the affirmative saying he would have certainly reconsidered the retirement if that could have been a possibility.
“If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there’s a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can’t figure that out [laughter]. You never know.”
We wonder if had any specific narrative in mind or any particular characters that he would have wanted to see in the MCU adaptation of Wolverine? The answer was again a yes:
“I don’t know. This was the one that I really thought…When I spoke with the guys who created Old Man Logan – a lot of people think, ‘Oh this is Old Man Logan.’ And I’m like, ‘Well… The inspiration for that was ‘Unforgiven.” That’s what we have in common. But there’s no Hulk babies in this one [laughter]”
The ultimate blow to our emotions came when he accepted the fact that he would have continued as Wolverine if it had been in MCU.
“At the moment, honestly, if I really did have them there, I probably wouldn’t have said this is the last. It just feels like this is the right time [to leave the character].”
Honestly, it is not even surprising to see how excited Jackman is at the possibility of X-Men featuring in MCU. Even before the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, he had stated that he would want to see Wolverine team up with the Avengers:
“I would love to see him as part of The Avengers. Because there’s a great dysfunction among that team, and I think Wolverine would fit right into that. He’d like that. There’s no doubt he’d get in a fight with Hulk at some point. Those two bad, rage-filled characters are going to square off at some point. It would be quite fun. I don’t know how much fun to shoot it would be because I’m sure I’d be on the worst end of it, but hey, he can heal.”
