At a time when Star Trek fans all over the world are readying themselves for Star Trek: Discovery, we think it would be great to have a look at an excellent and yet ignored storyline from the era of  The Next Generation. This was a famous two-part episode wherein Lt. Tasha Yar was brought back to life. If you are still clueless then let’s tell you that we are not talking about the actual ‘Next Generation’ narrative, but, a fan film that was titled as Star Trek: The Next Generation A XXX Parody.

This movie released by Digital Sin back in 2011, is unique in its own way. All we need to do is to take the porn angle out of this Star Trek porn, and what we are left with is quite a poignant fan film addressing real fan questions. Not only that, but the film also featured a highly rated actor in the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

The actor is none other than Giles Aston, though his name shows up merely as ‘Giles’ in the initial credits. This is of great significance because Aston has never been a porn actor, rather, he even had a stretch as a professional Patrick Stewart impersonator. What that meant is that he was available on hire to appear at conventions, parties or any other events in the form of various iconic characters played by Patrick Stewart and that included Professor X.

(Have a look at the first segment of this film devoid of any sex or nudity, that you could watch at work as well)

It is a breakthrough that Digital Sin managed to get Aston essaying the role of Picard in this film. The cast of the film in itself is an indication of how this movie was focused on its Star Trek canon. There was one scene where Riker (Rocco Reed) and Geordi (Tyler Knight) discussed firing a tachyon grid, and there were no sexual overtones to it. Rather, this was a plain reference to an episode titled “Redemption” wherein they had shown the firing of a tachyon grid to uncover cloaked Romulan warships.

Even if you are suspicious enough to think that ‘cloaked Romulan Warships’ is some kind of wordplay hinting at sex, let’s tell you it is not. In fact, throughout the parody, the actors indeed talked just about tachyon grids, photon torpedoes, warp drives and other such fancy Star Trek lingo.

(You can have a look at the second part of this movie here, and as we said it is safe to be viewed at work as well).

Not only this but, even when Star Trek: The Next Generation A XXX Parody team is not elaborating on the nerdy technical aspects of the show, it explores the possible relationships between various characters. All die hard Star Trek followers know Data and Tasha Yar (played in this film by India Summer) had sex in a first season episode, ‘The Naked Now.’ Although Tasha’s sister made a comeback on the show, they never gave a chance to Data (Xander Corvus) to express his emotions as Tasha was killed shortly thereafter. This Star Trek Porn rectifies that part by making Tasha return from the dead. This provides an opportunity for Data as well as other characters explore their feelings.

The absence of sex scenes, the Star Trek: The Next Generation A XXX Parody reminds the viewers of the occasionally tedious and slow pace of the actual show. It is only in the closing scene that Picard and Dr. Crusher (Kimberly Kane) get to openly talk about their feelings.

This film is so much in awe of the ‘Star Trek’ that they even took the extra step of ensuring that ‘Picard’s fishtank remained in his office.

Picard is shown as being remorseful about not having been able to bring Tasha back from the dead. It is then that Crusher tells him in a matter of fact manner, “we should be happy for the things that we have.”

In case you had no idea that the film was porn, these final scenes would make you feel that the script writers for this film understood ‘The Next Generation’ aptly as none of the characters was blown out of his/her original self. Even when they dare to explore the previously uncharted territories.
